Arcade games with nothing standing between you and the next run.

MoonThistle builds small Android games that live on the handset: no account, no connection, no adverts, nothing to buy. The current one is Lavaleap, where the only way out is up and the floor is catching up.

THE STUDIO

An arcade run is ruined by the thing that interrupts it

The genre lives or dies on the second after you fail. If the retry button is instantly under your thumb, a bad run costs nothing and you go again. Put a fifteen-second advert there, or a revive offer, or a chest that needs opening, and the loop breaks — the game stops being about the climb and starts being about the wait.

So Lavaleap has no advert at any point, no revive to sell, no energy, no chest and no currency. You die, you tap, you are climbing again before you have finished being annoyed. That is the whole retention plan, and it is the only one that respects a sixty-second game.

Characters unlock by climbing, not by paying. There is no price list in the app because there is nothing in it that has a price.

LAVALEAP

CLIMB OR BURN

The floor is lava, and it is coming up fast. Hop from platform to platform, higher and higher, while a tide of molten rock rises underneath. Stop climbing and it catches you; miss a jump and you fall into it. There is exactly one way to survive.

Tap or tilt to leap left and right, time each jump and read the gaps as they get meaner the higher you go. Grab a power-up for a burst of height or a moment of safety, unlock new characters to climb as, and push for a number that beats your best. One run melts into the next.

Solidholds as long as you need it
Crumblinggone the moment you land
Driftingslides side to side while you aim
Power-upsa burst of height, or a breath of safety

Why hesitating costs more than a missed jump

There is nothing to play here — this is the arithmetic underneath the panic. Set how long you dither before each leap, pick how far apart the platforms sit, and watch ten jumps play out against a lava line that never pauses. The gap between you and the lava is the only number that matters.

PAUSE BEFORE EACH JUMP0.40 s
PLATFORM SPACING

The lava rises at a steady 2.6 metres a second and a jump is airborne for 0.45 s. Everything else is down to how long you spend deciding.

A chart, two dials and no way to jump — you cannot climb, fall or score here. Lavaleap is the version where your thumb decides those numbers instead of a slider, with crumbling ledges, drifting ones and a height to beat.
